Despite having his best year in terms of ERA, Shelby Miller was stuck on a Braves team that had virtually no offense. Because of that, Miller ended up with a 6-17 record which really hurt his fantasy value. So how will this translate in 2016? Miller is now in Arizona where he will have the benefit of a better offense, although he is losing the pitcher friendly confines of Turner Field.
Looking back at 2015, Miller was fairly reliable as he had 21 quality starts. Regularly providing six innings of work with three earned runs or less is pretty nice, and is how he also wound up with a 3.02 ERA for the season. While that may have been a career high, there are also some red flags that suggest regression in that sense. His 1.25 WHIP is not great, and his 7.5 K/9 ratio is average at best. His 3.20 BB/9 is below average as well and issuing free passes at that rate is simply never good. Pitching at Chase Field also means that when he doesn't get away with doing so, he's going to get hit harder so that 3.02 looks to increase. I also doubt that he's looking forward to more frequent visits to Coors Field.
Overall, he isn't more than a project until he gets his control issues taken care of. There are better options out there so don't reach for Shelby Miller.
