Will Tyrod Taylor Keep Up His Top Ten Rank in 2015?

In his first game as starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, Tyrod Taylor finished as QB13 in fantasy. He finished as a top five fantasy QB in Weeks Two and Three. Cumulatively, Taylor is currently fantasy’s QB5. The former sixth round wide receiver convert has a 98th percentile SPARQ score has sparked the interest of many fantasy owners, so I wanted to explore if his electrifying start to the 2015 season may be sustainable.

Through three weeks, no quarterback has been pressured a higher rate, which makes his NFL leading 75% completion percentage when pressured all the more impressive. Overall, he’s completing passes at the fourth highest rate in the NFL, at just over 74%.

Breaking down his accuracy by play calling, we find him in the top five in passing accuracy in both play action and non-play action. His 9.15 yards per pass attempt (Y/PA) is good for the third highest at the moment. This Y/PA stat is a popular one amongst stat-heads who look for which stats which may be indicators or guides. If you like passer ratings, Taylor is currently a top ten rated QB. If you prefer the QBR stat, Taylor is once again a top 10 QB. As we have seen here, Taylor has performed as a top 10 QB through these first three weeks by almost any statistical measure or breakdown.

This isn’t entirely on Taylor’s shoulders, though, which is good news. He has more time to throw the football than any other quarterback in the league. The Bills’ supporting skill player cast is quite strong, and includes a top five draft pick sophomore WR in Sammy Watkins, some nice supporting players in Percy Harvin and Robert Woods, a (former?) top RB in LeSean McCoy, and rookie RB Karlos Williams has been pretty impressive in limited work.

With his strong supporting cast, top statistics in nearly every category, and early consistency we have to ask: just how good can Tyrod Taylor be? He’s definitely worth obtaining and starting in every format while we find out.
