BALLER MOVE: Add in 15+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 4% of leagues
ANALYSIS: William Contreras, 24-year-old brother to Cubs star Willson Contreras, is off to an excellent start for the Braves in 2022, and has yet to have a bad sample of play at the major league level. He hit eight dingers with a .701 OPS in 163 AB last season for the World Series champs, and has blasted off this season to the tune of six HR, a steal, and a .242/.342/.788 slash in just 33 AB.
While he is currently producing more grounders and far fewer line-drives than the league positional average, his 37.5% fly ball rate has given great way to the longball when combined with a Herculean 54.2% hard hit rate (building off of a 45% mark from 2021) and a .545 ISO (.184 last season). His batted-ball exit velocity has been north of 91 MPH dating back to the start of 2021, with a 5.5% reduction in strikeout rate and a 2.9% rise in walk rate. If you had to find a knock on him, it might be that he seems to be far out-performing his minor league track record, but at his age, he seems to have a ton of room for upward mobility. In any season, an offensive find at catcher in deeper formats is a big deal, and if you missed out on Adley Rutschman, William Contreras could be a widely-available option, not to mention a future All-Star, with him and his brother having the potential to be the best sibling-combo at catcher in MLB history.
