David Wright might have been the star of Game 3 of the World Series when he delivered a homer and four RBI for the New York Mets victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday.
The Mets captain went 2-for-5 on the night with two clutch hits. Wright blasted a homer of Yordano Ventura during the bottom of the first with his team already down 1-0. When the Mets needed more runs, the third baseman delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning off Kelvin Herrera.
The 32-year-old now owns a .196/.327/.304 batting line with 7 RBI in the postseason. Friday was the first home of the postseason for Wright and it sent a message to the rest of the team that they might be able to hang with the Royals despite being down 2-0 in the series.
Some questioned whether Wright should stay in the No. 2 hole even though he was struggling. It’s safe to say that he will be playing third and batting second on Saturday for Game 4.
