Analysis: Zack Cozart has been an offensive bright spot for the struggling Cincinnati Reds, hitting six home runs and producing a slash line of .297/.320/.500 in 158 AB this season. Cozart has been able to produce such a high slugging percentage by hitting for an isolated power figure of .203, which is fantastic for a shortstop. Cozart has been striking out infrequently at a clip of just 12.4%, while his BA looks very sustainable since his BABIP sits at just .304 while Cozart is hitting 36% of balls in play as line drives, which is 14% more frequent than the league average.
Cozart boasts impressive splits against both RHP and LHP with SLG of .496 and .513. Also not surprisingly, Cozart has been very comfortable in power-friendly Great American Ball Park where he has a .939 OPS and four of his six home runs in just 78 AB this season. Cozart is as good as it gets on the waiver wire for offensive options, especially at shortstop, and you know he has the home field that will nurture his power all year long.
