Welcome to the Tuesday, July 23rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 23rd. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Yuli Gurriel. A new Personal Record. 19HR. AVG back up to .292. Tied for the team lead in RBI(63).
- Yordan Alvarez 11HR, 35RBI make him one of the few successful rookie FAAB bids for many.
- Gerrit Cole joins 11-win club. 11K
- Matt Wieters filling in well offensively for Yadier Molina. Two straight games w/HR, eight on season matches 2018.
- Daniel Ponce de Leon forgot his contacts. Wild Thang. 3IP, 4BB, 3K. PIT was supposed to be the easier of the two-start week. Astros look scary.
- “You get a HR (Jung Ho Kang), I get a save.” ~ Carlos Martinez(9SV)
- How long do I need to repeat myself. Oscar Mercado is good. A little pop, a little speed. Shop here! 45% already do, but it's still not enough.
- Tyler Naquin chilling at .288AVG. I’ll have to look into that.
- Oooh, J.D. Martinez w/20HR, 55RBI. Need strong second half to get that first-round value.
- Andrew Benintendi, meet your long lost brother, Oscar Mercado. 8HR, 9SB. Sound familiar? Yeah, twinsies.
- Chase: 32.6% vs 31.8%
- SwingStrike: 11.6% vs. 11.4%
- Contact: 77.3% vs 77.7%
- Nathan Eovaldi, the future Red Sox closer. 0.2IP, 3ER, 2K. Don’t roll your eyes; I said future.
- Celebrate Good Times, C’mon! Eduardo Rodriguez goes seven innings, scorelessly (make it a word if it isn’t).
- Yoan Moncada moved to cleanup, and boy did he. 18th HR & 4RBI
- Ivan Nova. Complete Game. 1ER, 5K, 0BB. Awesome! A phenomenal performance. NO! That doesn’t mean go pick him up; are you crazy?
- Aussie-Love. Lewis Thorpe w W. Just a bullpen guy for now w/bright future.
- Mitch Garver. 171 wRC+. 19HR, 2.7WAR. Googoo-eyes.
- Max Kepler has most HR of any leadoff batter (23). Move him down in order = HR. 25HR, 65, .265AVG.
- Jorge Polanco, you’ve slowed down tremendously. You get a mention w/14th tater.
- “If you hit me ball, I’ll hit you back” ~ Luke Voit gets revenge w/19th smack.
- Eugenio Suarez w/two Monster Jams (407ft & 433ft). HR total will surpass 2018. Other numbers will fall short.
- Tyler Saladino. Well done good man. You have yourself a day with a robust combo meal. 2nd HR, 2nd SB.
- Renato Nunez doesn’t need Camden Yards. 23rd HR. Though .217AVG on road is discouraging.
- Greg Holland doesn’t care about your concerns. Three straight solid outings. Only allowed runs in 9 of 35 appearances. That’s a 75% on the test. A ‘C’ is passing.
- Robel Garcia w/fourth teddy bear souvenir. 36.8%K rate is almost respectable. 21%SwingStrike isn’t.
- Rougned Odor gives you 15HR, 7SB, .196AVG. 39% owned. Ugh!

- No Fear, Just Fantasy.
