Michael Kopech Delayed Due To Illness
3 years agoChicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said starting pitcher Michael Kopech's build-up was delayed by an illness this offseason. However, the team is still treating him as a starter and expect him to be ready for Opening Day. The 25-year-old right-hander missed all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons and pitched in only 69 1/3 regular season innings last year, so the White Sox will be extremely cautious with him this year. If fully healthy, Kopech should serve as a back-end starter for the White Sox, but he may not be able to go deep into games all season long, which will obviously limit his fantasy upside in 2022. In his 44 outings (four starts) for the Pale Hose last year, Kopech had a 3.50 ERA and 1.12 WHIP while striking out 103 and walking 24.
