Management Confident Zion Williamson Will Agree To Max Deal
2 years agoNew Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson could be on the verge of extending his tenure with the team. Williamson recently stated he wants to remain in New Orleans, which could happen if he signs an expected five-year, $182 million max extension. Executive VP of basketball operation David Griffin believes a deal will get done, although reports have suggested the Pels may not make the contract fully guaranteed. Nevertheless, the former Blue Devil has proven to be an exceptional talent since arriving in the league in 2019, averaging 25.7 points, 7.0 boards, and 3.7 assists. However, injuries have been an issue, with Williamson playing only 85 games throughout his two seasons and recently missing the entire 2021-22 campaign due to a foot injury. His lack of conditioning can also be problematic, and after he shot just 29.4% from deep in 2020, category managers may continue to take a hit in that area as well.
