2 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (elbow) will require Tommy John surgery, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Mize was shut down twice during rehab assignments, once in Mid-May and once just a few days ago. A visit with a specialist showed that Mize's UCL is still intact, but it has stretched so much that it has lost elasticity, thus requiring Tommy John to fix it. This is an unfortunate setback for the former top prospect, as he will now miss the entirety of the 2022 season as well as most of, if not all, the 2023 season.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
