Clay Holmes Records His 11th Save On Wednesday
3 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes shut the door on the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday to close out the team's 4-3 victory. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. Holmes is now a perfect 11-for-11 on save chances this year. He's been one of the most effective relievers in the majors with a 0.29 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP. He's walked just three batters across 30.2 innings while maintaining a phenomenal K/BB rate of 10.7. Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is nearing a return and multiple reports this week have suggested that Holmes and Chapman could share closing duties once Chapman is back. Both players are must-roster relievers in all fantasy formats. A ninth inning split could be a bit of a headache for fantasy managers, but the 46-16 Yankees could have enough save opportunities to support both relievers.
