Steven Matz Suffers Left Knee Strain
2 years agoUpdating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Steven Matz (knee) left his start early on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds due to a left knee strain. It was previously reported that Matz left due to a right ankle injury, but he actually injured his left knee trying to field a ball in the sixth inning. It looks like the 31-year-old southpaw is headed back to the injured list after making just one start since recently returning from an IL stint. Before leaving his outing, he allowed two earned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings to lower his season ERA to 5.70. In shallow mixed leagues, don't feel the need to keep Matz stashed if you have more pressing needs.
