ANALYSIS: Antonio Andrews missed the first two games of the season, only to come back and score a touchdown in Weeks 3 and 5. He emerged as the clear short yardage and between the tackles running back for the Titans. Bishop Sankey has been all but erased from the running back rotation, Terrance West is an afterthought as well, and Dexter McCluster has done well in the passing down capacity but could never be an effective between the tackles guy.
The problems that threaten Andrews is a rather poor showing in Weeks 5 and 6 (despite scoring in Week 5 he only got nine yards on seven carries) and the looming activation of David Cobb. Gameflow hasn’t done Andrews any favors these past two weeks, as the Dolphins stomped on the Titans in Week 6 and Zach Mettenberger couldn’t really sustain too many drives for the Titans’ offense in Week 7 against Atlanta. Andrews actually had a good game against the Falcons when he got the ball, rushing for 57 yards on only ten carries, so this next game against the Houston Texans is critical for Andrews and his carving out a role in the Titans offense moving forward.
Look for David Cobb to get a chance to take over as the guy for the Titans’ backfiend when he is activated, but Antonio Andrews can help himself out if he performs well before then. This also means, unfortunately, that the rest of the offense needs to give him the chance to perform well. If he’s been dropped out of frustration and you need a running back for Week 8, look Andrews’ way.
