ANALYSIS: There’s no questioning that the Houston Texans’ receiving corps is led by DeAndre Hopkins by a pretty wide margin. Nate Washington is not to be overlooked though. Hopkins, Cecil Shorts, and Nate Washington make a pretty sneaky three wide set that has upside. Washington himself averaged about nine targets in the first three weeks of the season before getting hurt, and then came back in Week 7 with a 127 yard two touchdown bang. Week 8 saw him get 74 yards and a touchdown before the Texans’ Week 9 bye.
So what did Week 10 show us, and how does he project moving forward? Well, Week 10 was pretty ugly all around with little offense to show for it, but Washington still managed to get five targets. Only two of them came down for catches, but he still got 32 yards. Washington is more of a “field stretcher” type of receiver, averaging 15.8 yards per reception on the year, and those numbers continue to reflect that. He is more of a standard league type of receiver, getting chunks of yardage rather than racking up receptions, though that isn’t to say PPR owners shouldn’t roster him. A matchup with the beleaguered Jets secondary is on tap, and Darrelle Revis should square up with Hopkins, leaving Washington with a great chance at a big day. Oh, and the Texans face the Saints after that, and we’ve seen how offenses do against them.
