ANALYSIS: He'll be reliant on getting into the end zone for his production to be worth it, but the Packers clearly don't have much of a reliable run game to fall back on right now. Richard Rodgers followed up his five catch, 19 yard and two touchdown effort with five catches on five targets for 32 yards and a touchdown against Detroit on Sunday. He and James Jones are those receiving options on the Packers who aren't going to get a ton of targets, but have a high chance at scoring touchdowns thanks to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' running game not having found a real groove yet.
It was encouraging to see that Richard Rodgers got five targets, all of which he converted into receptions, versus the rest of the team's struggles. When they get close to the end zone, it is still more effective for them to pass the ball and let Aaron Rodgers be a playmaker. Richard Rodgers clearly benefits from this, and his owners will too. Andrew Quarless should return shortly, but Rodgers has shown himself to be more effective than Quarless ever has, and Rodgers performed well this past week even with backup tight end Justin Perillo getting plenty of looks. Don't fret. The Packers offense is struggling right now, and will face the Vikings and Bears before a rematch with the Lions, and then they get Dallas, Oakland, and Arizona. Yes, that’s Oakland in a nice playoff week matchup for fantasy owners. None of those defenses are particularly threatening, and if you need tight end help then investing in Richard Rodgers is a good idea.
