ANALYSIS: In the five games prior to Week 10 (when Cecil Shorts returned from injury) that he had appeared in, Shorts averaged nine targets per game thanks to an offense that frequently finds itself in catchup mode. The Texans also lack a real running game. It isn’t the most efficient passing attack, but what they lack in concision they make up for in volume.
Week 10 only saw Shorts get three catches for 16 yards, but he still got seven targets on the day. Week 11 saw Shorts get five targets which he turned into two catches for 51 yards. The crazy part was a 21 yard passing touchdown in that game. Not to be lost in that was the 26 rushing yards on four rushes. In Week 12 he rushed three times for 20 yards, while also catching three of four targets for 18 yards and a touchdown.
He isn’t going to carry your wide receiver corps, but he looks to be a viable flex option thanks to his versatility and the offense around him. Shorts appears to be more of the short (ha) to intermediate option in the Texans’ offense. Hopkins does everything. Nate Washington seems to be the guy who runs the longer routes and stretches the field. If you need some wide receiver relief, Shorts is a pretty solid pickup that is available in many leagues.
