Jose Reyes entered the 2015 as a fourth/fifth round pick as he was poised to produce atop a powerful Toronto lineup. Unfortunately it wasn’t long before he cracked a rib on a checkswing, and was shelved in late April through most of May.
He was then traded to Colorado days before the trade deadline where he really didn’t do a thing. He ended up with 519 plate appearances, scoring 57 runs, hitting seven homers, knocking in 53 RBIs, and stealing 24 bags with a .274 average. Certainly not awful, but after the trade his triple slash was .259/.291/.368 and he’s a few years on the wrong side of 30. Trevor Story is impressing in the minor leagues and Reyes is also dealing with a domestic abuse charge for which he will stand trial in Hawaii starting April 4th. It’s possible that a plea deal is reached, but he could be deported as a result of this as well.
If he plays though, his upside in Coors is still decent and a full season out of him can net you a 10/25 year. His name drives up his price a bit though, with the risk involved he isn’t worth being the seventh shortstop off the board, but if he falls outside of the top ten he's worth a shot.
