Miguel Cabrera Unlikely To Be Traded
7 years agoDetroit Tigers general manager Al Avila doesn't see it as likely that the club will trade first baseman Miguel Cabrera amidst their rebuild. "That's hard to predict as far as Miggy's concerned,'' Avila said. "That's a huge contract, and those kind of contracts are not usually moved or easily moved.'' Cabrera had the worst season of his career in 2017, in which he hit .249 with 16 home runs and 60 RBI in 130 games. The aging superstar saw a huge drop in batting average, on-base percentage and wOBA, and his strikeout and walk ratios went in the wrong direction. Perhaps the two herniated discs in his back played a large part, but it's finally time to consider that Cabrera's best days are behind him. He'll turn 35 this year. Cabrera could bounce back with better health, but it's a risky proposition betting on a full rebound at this point.
