BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 39% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Not only are the New York Mets off to a great start, but Steven Matz looked impressive through his first three starts. With a rocky outing on April 18th, this is the perfect time to take advantage of the waiver wire. In his first 14.1 innings, Matz struck out 17 with only seven walks. Even better, while allowing a total of four home runs, his xFIP sat at 3.73. There is no way he continues to give up a 30.8 HR/FB% the rest of the year, which means if the other peripherals hold Matz could be on his way to a successful season. Do not add Matz as an SP1/2, but if there is an opening on your roster due to injuries to the likes of Taijuan Walker or Dinelson Lamet, Matz looks a good option. Even better, it seems like Zach Wheeler is the Mets starter who will lose out to Jason Vargas returning.
Matz is also on pace to set a career high LOB% this season, and while the current 80.7% might not stand, these numbers are close to his best season in 2016. In 22 starts that year, Matz won nine games and posted a LOB% of 77. If Matz can continue that number, as opposed to the 66.9% from 2017 Matz could well return to that breakout season.
