Short But Successful Night For Steven Matz
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz got off to a rough start on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. After an infield hit and a walk, Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman crushed a three-run shot that put an early damper on Matz’s night. However, Matz retired the last 10 batters he faced prior to his removal after only four innings pitched. He was only at 74 pitches at the time of his removal, but it came for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Mets threatening and needing a win after a rough first two games of the series. Despite the short outing, Matz certainly made it count. He struck out six against the one aforementioned walk. He’ll look to keep the good vibes going when he next takes the hill in St. Louis against the Cardinals on Tuesday night.
