6 years agoAn opening-round 80 all but ended Rory McIlroy's chances of playing the weekend at Shinnecock Hills. His opening round consisted of three birdies but also three double-bogeys and seven bogeys. He rebounded for an even-par 70 on Friday but that left him two shots shy of the cut line. This was McIlroy's fourth missed cut of the year, and he continues his up-and-down play. McIlroy should fare better in the Open Championship at Carnoustie next month.--cmangano
