Francisco Mejia Hits First Career Homer, Then Another
6 years agoIn his first start with the San Diego Padres, catcher Francisco Mejia went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs. Coming into the game with 19 big league plate appearances, Mejia led off the third inning with his first career homer. He followed up with a three-run bomb the next inning, finishing the day with four RBI. The prize from the trade that sent closer Brad Hand to the Cleveland Indians, Mejia should split time behind the dish with Austin Hedges for the remainder of 2018. The 22-year-old slashed .328/.364/.582 with seven long balls in 31 games for Triple-A El Paso prior to the call-up. He’s a capable DFS option and holds season-long relevance if owners can tolerate his part-time role.
