The fantasy football season is more than halfway over! Minnesota’s Kyle Rudolph is the only tight end with any fantasy relevance on bye this week, and even he is not as big of a loss as he would have been in past seasons due to him not finding the end zone as often as in other years (8 TD in 2017, 2 so far in 2018).
But with fantasy owners making their playoff pushes with only a month left before the postseason starts in many leagues, those desperate for tight end help will be plucking the best available prospects off their waiver wires.
Without further ado, here are the best tight ends to pick up heading into Week 10. Good luck RotoBallers!

TE Waiver Wire Options for Week 10
Chris Herndon IV, New York Jets – 31% owned
The New York Jets offense was below-average when all their skilled-position players were healthy. Now it is downright laughable with running back Bilal Powell out for the season and receivers Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa just coming back from their own injuries. The most imaginative plays and packages cannot make an offense built around Isaiah Crowell and Jermaine Kearse and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold.
Herndon has been the lone bright spot for the Jets’ dismal offense in recent weeks. After catching touchdown tosses in three consecutive contests, Herndon had a season-high 62 receiving yards against Miami this past Sunday. The fantasy needle is definitely aiming up for this rookie tight end for the rest of the season.
Jeff Heuerman, Denver Broncos – 8% owned
Denver dealing Demaryius Thomas to Houston did not only do fantasy favors for rookie receiver Courtland Sutton. Heuerman is now finally being noticed by quarterback Case Keenum like a nerdy girl in movies finally gets noticed by the high school quarterback when she takes off her glasses.
Heuerman had 15 receptions in his first eight games this year. He had 10 in his ninth game this past weekend, racking up 83 yards and scoring a touchdown in the process. Heuerman is definitely going to get some of the targets and catches Thomas left on the table when he was traded. The only problem with picking Heuerman up this week is that Denver is on bye, so only take him as a long-haul solution and not for a short-term fix if you need a TE this week.
Benjamin Watson, New Orleans Saints – 45% owned
I remember this guy! I had him on my fantasy squad a decade ago when he was with the New England Patriots and went by “Ben.” The guy has some sick wheels for a tight end, but he was not Cris Carter-like when it came to scoring touchdowns. Watson was steady and serviceable for fantasy football, though, and he is still is today at age 97 (I mean 37).
Watson is getting targeted more often by Drew Brees now that No. 2 WR Ted Ginn is on injured reserve. Watson has scored touchdowns in two of his last three games and has caught 13 passes the past 14 times Brees has aimed his way. The fantasy points should keep coming in his next three games as Watson faces three of the worst pass defenses in the NFL (Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Atlanta).
Other Tight End Options
Jordan Thomas, Houston Texans – 10% owned
Thomas would have been mentioned earlier in the column if he too was not off this week to a bye. He has hauled in three touchdowns over his past two games and appears uncoverable near the end zone, so a fantasy owner short at the tight end position has to give him a look for down the stretch.
Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams – 9% owned
You would think that an offensive wunderkind like Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay would fund a way to utilize his tight ends a little better, although it is hard to argue with his results over the past two seasons. Everett has accounted for 70 yards over the past two weeks, so maybe McVay is showing signs of adding more plays for Everett and tight end teammate Tyler Higbee from here on out.
