5 years agoCharlotte Hornets shooting guard/small forward Nicolas Batum departed Wednesday’s season opener against the Chicago Bulls due to a sprained right hand and will not return to action. Prior to heading to the locker room in the third quarter, Batum played 11 minutes off the bench and collected four rebounds and two assists without attempting a shot. After having his status somewhat up in the air prior to tip-off, the veteran took the floor and was slotted in with the Hornets’ second unit. His absence figures to give wings Dwayne Bacon and Malik Monk even more run. Charlotte’s next game comes Friday at home against the Timberwolves.--Jesse Borek
