Gleyber Torres Hits First Spring Training Home Run

5 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres launched his first spring training home run of 2020 with a three-run shot on Saturday. Torres followed up his strong rookie season with an impressive .278/.337/.535 slash line last year and should be an elite fantasy shortstop again in 2020. Torres improved his plate approach last season by holding his chase rate effectively constant at 35.1% while increasing his z-swing rate from 68.7% to 76.3%. That adjustment helped push Tores’ strikeout rate down nearly four points to 21.4%. With a still strong .406 xwOBA on contact, Torres’s improved plate discipline should help fuel another season with an OPS around .900, so fantasy owners should feel comfortable drafting him in early rounds.--Sam Chinitz
