Gleyber Torres Improving At Shortstop
5 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres has had a rough spring training defensively with five errors at shortstop so far but is confident that his fielding will improve significantly before the start of the season. Torres split time between second base and shortstop last season, but with infielder D.J. Lemahieu taking over the starting second base job this year, Torres is slated to be the everyday shortstop in 2020. Regardless of how well he plays on defense, Torres will likely receive everyday playing time thanks to his bat. Torres posted an .871 OPS last year with a better than average 21.4% strikeout rate, and his .296 BABIP and .497 xSLG indicate that his performance should largely be repeatable if not improved upon in 2020. Fantasy owners should expect Torres to be an elite option at shortstop this season, regardless of how poor he is defensively.
