4 years agoWhen the Los Angeles Angels called up top prospect Jo Adell, while also welcoming back Mike Trout, the number’s game in the outfield began to become apparent. Justin Upton and Brian Goodwin would be ceding way to the future of the team’s outfield, and per manager Joe Maddon, the two will now be platooning in left field moving forward. Goodwin’s stronghold on playing time has been tenuous in 2020, but Upton, who is seeing a role reduction after years of consistent performance is a surprise. Still, having opened the year 3-for-37 at the dish with 14 strikeouts, Upton’s reduction in playing time was writing on the wall for an Angels team attempting to nab a playoff spot. With the announcement, both Upton and Goodwin can likely hit the waiver wire in most season-long formats, reserved for DFS roles in advantageous scenarios.--Jesse Borek
