Yankees Place Gleyber Torres On Injured List
4 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, retroactive to Aug. 21. Manager Aaron Boone said that Torres will require two to three weeks to recover from his hamstring and quadriceps strains before returning to the lineup, putting his best-case scenario return date sometime in the first week of September. With second baseman DJ LeMahieu (thumb) sidelined as well, the Yankees plan to cover their middle infield with Tyler Wade at shortstop and Thairo Estrada at second base, though neither are particularly attractive fantasy options. Interestingly, Boone floated the idea of having third baseman Gio Urshela play shortstop, something the team played around with during spring training. Such a scenario could allow third baseman/outfielder Miguel Andujar to see playing time if he gets called back up.
