4 years agoIn his first start in roughly two years, New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo threw three perfect innings against the Marlins on Tuesday while striking out five in the Mets' 3-0 loss. Lugo, who has yet to be stretched out as a starter, was held to just a 39 pitches in the contest. Lugo has been dominant as a reliever over the past few seasons with a 2.68 ERA since the start of 2018, but the Mets are in dire need of help in the rotation due to a rash of injuries as well as ineffective starts by Michael Wacha, Steven Matz and Rick Porcello. Lugo’s lack of high-quality starting experience, combined with the Mets' suspect bullpen, makes the decision to keep Lugo permanently in the rotation questionable. That said, Lugo did prove on Tuesday he is well up to the task. Notwithstanding the hit to Lugo's fantasy value now that save opportunities are no longer in play, managers in full-season leagues should hold on to him to see how he continues to adjust to his new role. Lugo's next start will come either Sunday against the Yankees or Tuesday against the Orioles as the Mets continue to set their rotation. Irrespective of the match-up, it is likely Lugo will again be subjected to a pitch count making him a somewhat unattractive option in DFS contests.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
