EPL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Manchester City vs Southampton
Manchester City (-500) had their historic winning streak ruined by their crosstown rivals on Sunday in a 2-0 loss. They still have an 11 point lead at the top of the Premier League table, though. They now have a chance to extend their lead in the title race with a midweek game against Southampton. Southampton have had a dreadful second half of the season, but they did just pick up a win against a last-place Sheffield side on Saturday. City will be large favorites at home in this one against a poor Southampton team. The goal total over/under is 3.0.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
Manchester City should have a massive attacking advantage in this game. They have been stellar scoring-wise at home where they average 2.1 goals per game. Now they face a Southampton defense that has been poor on the road where they allow 2.0 goals per game. This game could get very ugly, and stacking four City pieces to maximize your exposure is a recommended strategy.
Kevin de Bruyne ($15) is a great place to start a fantasy lineup on this slate. He just created eight chances in a loss against Manchester United. Just imagine the damage he can do at home against a much weaker Southampton team. City should dominate possession stats in this game giving KDB unlimited opportunities to create chances. Those chances created can always lead to an assist, and de Bruyne has a really good goal upside at +120.
Pep Guardiola seems to be deciding between starting Sergio Aguero ($12) or Phil Foden ($9). Whichever player starts immediately becomes a great play. They are both a little too cheap here for their goal upside in a matchup like this. Aguero leads the slate in anytime scoring odds at -140 even with his injuries and inconsistent playing time this year. Foden has nice scoring odds at +130 too.
Riyad Mahrez ($11) has been more productive lately with 20.4 fantasy points per game over his last five games. He has one of the better floors among City attackers with his peripherals and his goal upside is still strong at +130.
Pep Guardiola is also known for some unpredictable starting lineups - and with the whole squad healthy now - there's no saying who will start this game. What is certain is that at least three - if not four - City attackers is highly recommended on this slate.
James Ward-Prowse ($12) is the best fantasy option for Southampton with Danny Ings back on the shelf. However, he is tough to recommend - even in GPPs - in this tough matchup at that price. Nathan Tella ($4) might get back into the starting lineup. That just good value at minimum price. He allows you to target a higher-priced defender.
FanDuel DFS Defenders
The Joao Cancelo ($10) of two months ago would've crushed this matchup. However, he hasn't hit 12 fantasy points in four games and has just one 20+ point game since January 30th. His recent form is definitely concerning, but he's still one of the best defenders on any given slate with his upside.
I like Oleksandr Zinchenko ($6) for this cheap. He has some attacking value with a few chances created per game. He should be able to use that attacking ability in a matchup like this where City dominates possession. Zinchenko also has a decent shot at a clean sheet bonus - which increases his value. City's home defense is the best in the league and Southampton struggle scoring on the road and will be without their starting striker.
City force a decent amount of defensive peripherals - especially tackles and interceptions. I like Jan Bednarek ($8), but that's fairly inhibitory price tag. Ryan Bertrand ($7) is fine for $1 less, and Mohammed Sallsu ($5) is okay if you're going to try and fit in more City studs. Sallsu has not shown that great of an ability to get defensive stats in his limited time on the field, however, this slate is more about maximizing your exposure to City attackers which he helps you do.
