Welcome back, RotoBallers! Like I mentioned earlier in the week, there are a handful of single-game slates this week for us to enjoy. This is actually the last day in the league where we have just one game, however, there are still some single-game slates left. I will be breaking down that game in full for you here. Keep reading this breakdown for my DFS soccer picks on RotoBaller and see how to have success on Friday's slate.
The very large majority of my DFS content will be EPL or UCL-related, however, there is more soccer than just what is being played in England. If you want to chop it up with myself and other RotoBaller writers about non-EPL leagues or other sports, consider becoming a premium member and joining our ever-growing community of DFS and fantasy sports enthusiasts! There was some great conversation over the four UCL slates we had this week, and the Premium Slack chat is as full as ever!
In this article, I will be providing you with my English Premier League daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for FanDuel on 5/14/21 for the slate that locks at 3:00 pm ET. EPL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Manchester City vs Newcastle United
Manchester City (-375) officially won the English Premier League on Tuesday when Manchester United lost to Leicester. Congrats to them on an awesome season after a rough patch to begin the year. They're massive favorites at home against a Newcastle team that has battled - and beat - relegation all season. It will be interesting to see how both teams approach this game as it is essentially meaningless of the standings. City also have their biggest game of the season - the UEFA Champions League Final - ahead of them, and they will not want any players to get hurt. No matter who's out there for City, they should dominate this game. The goal total over/under is 3.0.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
This game calls for at least three Manchester City attackers. Newcastle's defense has been horrid home and away this year. They're giving up 1.66 goals per game (5th most), 4.91 SOGs per game (4th most), and 11.46 chances per game (most). Manchester City attackers should absolutely eat up this defense at home.
Gabriel Jesus ($12) is the most likely anytime scorer out of the expected starters that I am seeing at -110. His scoring form leaves a lot to be desired, but he is getting some peripherals. I would not advise playing him in the captain spot with his low floor if he can't find the back of the net, but he is definitely worth a flex spot in this matchup.
Riyad Mahrez ($14) has been awesome in UCL play, but his EPL form is also lackluster. With Kevin de Bruyne ($15) likely resting, Mahrez gets a huge bump up. He will take on more of a role in this attacking unit, and as I mentioned already, this matchup does not get much better. He's a good captain option too with his peripherals combined with his goal upside.
Phil Foden ($11) is another awesome play here. He's far too cheap for his upside, and his play recently has been good.
Ilkay Gundogan ($8) is the easy value play on the slate. He's having an elite season, and he thrived with KDB off the field earlier in the year. He's another City attacker like Foden who just is not priced right for this matchup.
The only reason to play a Newcastle attacker on this slate is to get a City defender. If you want to go that route, I like Sean Longstaff ($6) if he gets out there to start. Otherwise, Jonjo Shelvey ($7) is the other cheap option.
FanDuel DFS Defenders
Joao Cancelo ($10) has an elite matchup to showcase his attacking ability. He can also get some solid defensive stats and should come away from this game with a clean sheet bonus. If you roster Longstaff/Shelvey, Cancelo is the elite City defender to pay up for. I'll also take Kyle Walker ($5) for this price. He can get enough defensive stats to provide value, but he also has attacking upside with chances created in a matchup like this. Not to mention that Walker should get a clean sheet bonus as well.
For defensive action, City allow tackles and blocks most. That should play well into the defensive stats that Jacob Murphy ($7) gets well. He's fairly priced on this slate, and the matchup is strong. Emil Krafth ($5) is also a good play for this price if you need the extra salary to fit in another City attacking stud.
