ANALYSIS: Once a top-flight arm that fantasy owners would fight tooth and nail over, St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright has seen injuries derail his efforts in recent years. He held an ugly 1.83 WHIP over his first 18 innings of ‘18 before elbow and hamstring ailments saw him hit the 60-day DL.
However, now Waino is coming back for a start on Sept. 10 against the Pirates. This comes after quietly stringing together six scoreless rehab appearances with a beautiful 23/4 K/BB ratio over 17 innings across High-A, Double-A and Triple-A. Considering that the Cardinals are pushing hard for a playoff spot and that Wainwright was a SP1 in the past, he is more than worth a dice throw in deeper formats.
