If you scoured the web for 2016 Braves’ projections and saw Adonis Garcia slotted in at third base and batting fifth behind Freeman, your reaction may have been one of shock and dismay.
From a “real life” baseball perspective, plenty might agree with you as his glove at third is subpar. What is keeping him in the conversation is how he was promoted to the majors for the first time last year (at the age of 30) and proceeded to crank ten homers in a third of the season (ten in 198 plate appearances to be precise) with a .277 average.
His minor league track record doesn’t point to a power profile that touches what he flashed last year, but no matter as he appears to have made himself a legitimate candidate to start at third for the Braves to open 2016. In NL-only and deeper formats, Garcia could be a solid CI if he continues squaring up the ball as he did last year.
