BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 39% of leagues
ANALYSIS: St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Alex Reyes is getting closer to the big leagues and this is likely the last chance to get this talented pitcher. Reyes tore through the Low-A Clinton LumberKings in his latest rehab start, striking out 12 out of 15 batters over five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks.
According to scouts on the scene, his fastball was sitting around 95-99 MPH and occasionally hit triple digits. The results are lovely, but no one was expecting a Low-A team to be able to battle against stuff like his. What we will need to monitor as he progresses toward activation is his control coming off of Tommy John surgery, especially since his pre-TJS walk rate of roughly 12% was already on the high side.
An injury to Adam Wainwright has given the chance to Jack Flaherty to take a rotation spot, but there does not seem to be a rotation spot for Reyes at the current moment. The team is waiting for ace Carlos Martinez to return from the disabled list, but Reyes' talent is undoubted. That said, the upside demands adding right now.
