Hello there eSports DFS enthusiasts, and welcome back to RotoBaller's coverage of Call of Duty DFS contests for DraftKings! Welcome everyone to Stage 2 of COD League! Everything went pretty according to plan, the NYSL/London game was an absolute bloodbath, Unfortunately, Simp played horribly but Atlanta smacked LA Thieves, and lastly, Toronto pulled out a close one against LAG but CleanX failed miserably and the other value on Toronto in Bance decided to go off.

Best of 5

- Minnesota Rokkr (+225) vs. Dallas Empire (-310)
- Florida Mutineers (+195) vs. Optic Chicago (-275)
Slate Overview
Seattle is looking like a brand new team with this new meta and this is going to be a great match for them to finish the weekend out. I really do think Surge should be favored here. Paris did not look great against Dallas and Seattle really kept it close with Dallas. Both of these teams are going to be fighting for higher positioning in their group as it is really tight. This one should be a close one and a great one to watch.
New Rokkr? Looks like it. New starter Standy started his rookie debut hot as Minnesota came in and swept Optic right out from under their feet. They now get a tough match in the Dallas Empire which is always a tough one when you have Shotzzy and Huke across from you. The odds are a little high but who knows Minnesota could have just caught Optic on a bad day and they could come in and get crushed by Dallas. This is going to be a test for this new Minnesota team and if they come out on top of this one, we could have a new contender on our hands.
Florida lost to Seattle and smoked the old Minnesota team. Optic is going to have to rebound from that rough loss against the new Minnesota team. And I think they do exactly that. Florida is a good team but they are missing a piece to the puzzle and it's causing them to struggle when playing against tougher opponents. This should be a win by Optic unless they have once again a bad day and if they do, we might have to look at Optic a little differently from here on out as they might be needing to look at getting a new piece themselves.
COD DFS Basics
- Like in CSGO, players receive two points for a kill and are penalized -1 for dying. Therefore, the simplest stat to look at here is K/D ratio. However, players can also earn fantasy points for planting or defusing bombs (three points each) in Search and Destroy rounds, so there are some players who we can target for other skills besides their ability to kill the opponent.
- You need to roster a team slot on both sites. Teams accrue fantasy points for games won (+4), matches won (+10), and Search and Destroy rounds won (+.5).
- Teams will be playing best-of-five matches on a rotation of various game modes. Those modes and the order in which they are played are as follows: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, Control, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy.
- In hardpoint rounds, players with positive K/D ratios are usually the highest scorers and these rounds are often the bloodiest.
- They also have changed a game mode from Domination to Control for League play. This is going to be a lot different in gameplay as it's round-based and not the first one to 200. They play first one to 3 round wins. You win by capturing both points or killing the enemy team until they run out of their lives. One team defends and the other attacks.
- There is a sweep bonus this year as teams and players both can get a 20 point player sweep and a 5 point team sweep. In the chance, they do sweep they also get granted a bonus of 20 points for not playing hardpoint and a bonus of 5 points for not playing the final Search and Destroy map. So that adds up in a sweep to a total of 45 extra points which are going to be very crucial this year.

COD DFS Captain Considerations
Octane: I've been waiting all year for the perfect chance to talk about Octane. He was one of my favorite roster plays last year as he can absolutely break a slate at any time. Seattle is finally rounding out into a good form right now and Octane is playing some of the best COD of his career right now. His last 4 performances resulted in; 114, 104, 116, and 112. In most of these games, he's able to still score well even in losses. He has one poor game this and that was the very beginning of the season. He has definitely improved this season and I expect it to continue as they get Paris Legion coming into this one. Their only win in this stage is over the previously poor Minnesota team. They have losses against Dallas and Optic. Seattle almost pulled off the upset against Dallas and I really think Seattle is the better team right now and are in a better place to score. Octane has a 1.09 overall K/D, as well as in hardpoint. He also has a 1.35 K/D in SnD and 1.00 in Control. Octane is one of the top plays on the slate especially with Huke struggling since the meta change.
Envoy: It's hard for me to think that this is going to be the norm for Optic, just getting blown out like that is not normal and Dashy looked terrible. I think people see that and the ownership drops a bit on optic players. I'm definitely looking at this as a game to rebound of. I really think they were overlooking Minnesota and it bit them in the ass, as it did my lineups. Envoy, FormaL, and Dashy have all been playing at elite levels this season and I don't see any reason to hop off them completely cause of one bad game. Every team does and I'm still waiting for FaZe to have theirs. Envoy is one of the best hardpoint players in the league as he is 4th in kills per 10 minutes, 5th in hardpoint K/D and leads the league in hill time. He has been okay in both SnD and Control but has been still able to contribute a lot and I like the pivot from Dashy who will be likely the highest owned Optic player. FormaL is also a good play at the captain as he is the cheapest of the three.
Other captain plays: Dashy, FormaL, Owakening, Aqua, Shotzzy
COD DFS Value Plays
Prestinni: Something is clicking for Prestinni now cause he has been hot since the meta change. Going positive in both of the games since and dropping 98 DKP and 104 DKP in his last two. I also love the matchup against Paris which should end up being a blood bath. We are getting great value here at 6,600 which allows us to get an extra stud in the end. He has a 1.11 K/D over his last two games and has got an average of 13 extra points in hill time. Both of these teams are really even but I'm giving the edge to Seattle in Hardpoint and SnD. Control they just barely got their first win in this year so maybe they can continue that trend but I really like the number of possible kills we can get out of someone so cheap who is playing really well right now. Just need to keep the momentum going.
Illey: Will DraftKings learn ever? Illey has been playing very well over his last 4 games and has scored better than his teammate Huke in his last two. The new meta has seemed to help Illey improve his game and I think he is gaining confidence in his gameplay as well. Illey is a really cheap 7,200 as well and is the cheapest play on his team once again. He has a 1.03 K/D over his last 2 games and the matchup here is a good one against Minnesota. Minnesota did takedown Optic very quickly with their new addition in Standy and that's going to be interesting against a tough Dallas team. It's just definitely hard to ignore Illey at such a cheap price especially while he is playing so well. Illey will more than likely be pretty chalky though and will be a good play to have in Cash games.
Other value plays: Scump, Attach, Classic, Priestahh(PUNT)
COD DFS Stacks
Seattle Surge: I don't get to talk Seattle Surge often, so I'm taking the chance to hype them up. Octane is one of the best players in the league and has just been on a bad team. It finally looks like though things are clicking and they have taken down Florida 3-1 and took a very tough Dallas team to 5 rounds and it came down to .2 seconds left on a bomb defuse. Seattle looks like a very different team since the change in meta. Prestinni is finally playing well and Gunless has always been lurking around and being the 2nd man on Seattle. Loony has come up in clutch moments but continues to struggle all around and therefore is the one player I'm fading from Seattle. This match should be bloody and should be a fun one to watch as well.
Optic Chicago: Rebound game. The ownership should drop a bit after they got absolutely destroyed against Minnesota. This game should be a good one against Florida though who is starting to work things out as well. Optic has been one of the best teams this year besides FaZe and this is the one match they struggled in. I'm not putting that against them as every team has a fluke every once in a while. FormaL, Dashy, and Envoy are all Top 15 players in the league right now and have the ability to turn a game on its side in an instance. Optic has been better in every single game mode and the only one that is close is SnD, which is definitely something Florida could win. I do see Optic winning Hardpoint and Control though as Optic is one of the best Control teams in the league with only 2 losses on the year so far. 3-1 Optic is the call for me.
Other Team Plays: Dallas Empire, Paris Legion(GPP)
Summary
- TLDR: Seattle Surge 3-1, Dallas Empire 3-1, Optic Chicago 3-1
- Dallas will likely be the highest owned and therefore are your cash stack.
- Optic will more than likely be the next higher-owned team but will be less owned than normal due to getting blown out by Minnesota. Florida is definitely a GPP pivot though. Owakening and Skyz if you go that way.
- Seattle Surge and Paris will likely be a GPP stack and a hedge here might be a good idea.
