Chris Sale came into 2015 with a bit of a foot injury that scared his draft stock down a little, and boy he paid off for those that got him. He only got 13 wins with the struggling White Sox backing him, but he struck out 274(!) in 208.2 innings with a 3.41 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. The ERA was pretty disappointing considering he had a 2.73 FIP and 2.52 SIERA.
2015 exceeded expectations in the sabermetric department, even for Sale. He had a career best swinging strike rate and first strike percentage. So what was his demise? A career worst in luck. He posted a .323 BABIP allowed, 73.3% strand rate, and 0.99 HR/9. He isn’t Clayton Kershaw, but he is the best starting pitcher in the AL and deserves to be towards the top of your lists. As we’ve been saying, the White Sox should improve and with Frazier’s bat in tow, Sale has a good chance of beating his 13 wins from last year. If you draft him as your SP1 for 2016, you are entitled to do a little jig.
