Welcome to the Friday, June 7th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. Daily Musings
- Mookie Betts HR(10). He looks more like 2017 than 2018 Betts. Maybe due to Cora fidgeting w/lineup at top. Has a slash line of .123/.275/.281 batting leadoff (.114 BABIP). Buy Low!
- A Panda is more than just average (.285); definitely more than any Giant.
- Colin Moran. Regular guy w/good production. To maximize him, use him @home vs. right-hander (.311); .281 in five-hole. .322 in six-spot. eightHR, 32RBI, 3% owned.
- Jalen Beeks. Sneaky W(five). What do you call a reverse-vulture win? A Beeker? A Beekie? Beekstar? Beek-mode. Yes, that's what it is.
- As Dave Roberts promised, Will Smith is no more. It was a good run. I'll grab you when you come back up.
- Max Kepler. You’re once, twice, three times a Big Poppa.
- BIG TIME SLUMP: Ozzie Albies. Last 30 days, zero HR, zero SB, .228AVG.
- Kyle Tucker Wins PCL Player of the Month Award. Derek Fisher and Jake Marisnick stand in way. Almost said that w/straight face.
- Nicky Lopez batting in the seventh spot, steals his first base. Not how anyone drew it up.
- Check the guy leading your league, he probably has Christian Yelich 23HR/13SB. Wow!
- Fantasy baseball reminds me of all my trips to Vegas. I would sit down at the one-arm bandits and keep depositing my money until I won. I didn’t want to move machines because then someone else would come to my machine & win after I fed the beast. If you’re just feeding the fantasy baseball beast, don’t give up on a player too easily. You’ll just end up watching someone else sit down at your machine and Win.
- Robinson Chirinos is on FIIIIIRE (sung in an Ohio Players way). A HR in each of his last 4 games. AVG catcher blessed to play on an elite team. Stats will come w/little effort.
- Seattle Mariners already have the most Ks (650) in the majors. It will only get worse once they start selling off pieces, becoming even more of a streaming opponent.
- Didi Gregorius returns. May falter at first. Cheap production w/upside (50% owned)
- Toronto Blue Jays w/ worst hitting offense (.220). Hitting coach Guillermo Martínez doesn’t seem to be the answer.
- Some things you just hold onto & you can’t let go. Memories. Love. The idea of Trevor Bauer being an elite pitcher. Looking at stats, he’s closer to the 2015-2017 guy, than he is the 2018 guy. There’s nothing wrong with that; still a very good starter. Fly ball rate (39.5%) isn’t bad, but still giving up a bunch of HRs(13). Maybe he’s in the middle of those performances, & just affected by the live ball.
- Trey Mancini producing w/little fanfare (13HR, 41R, 31RBI). Improved BB (7%), K(20%), &LA (better GB, FB rates).
- Go on, Mike Trout. You do you (16th HR).
- Brian Dozier w/ four HR, 14RBI, .300AVG over the last 30days. Does that make them right for sending down Carter Kieboom? For now, I guess.
