Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the August 10th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 9th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. smacks eighth HR. Another smack to my face for not drafting him anywhere.
  • Walker Buehler holding on for that first kiss (Win).
  • Manny Machado & Ronald Acuna w/double-barrel long-distance shotgun. Mitch Moreland joins the crew as well.
  • Zach Plesac ventures out. Once upon a time, it wasn't important to him. The truth changes.
  • Josh Staumont, the bun is cool. Let’s do a ponytail. I wanna see you whip your hair back and forth with that triple-digit heat.
  • Vince Velasquez. You’re a mystery. I shall not be sucked back in.
  • Get that base, Jean Segura.
  • Hit Ramon Laureano in the back & he’ll teach you how to throw. Disrespect his momma, it’s time to get froggy.
  • Rhys Hoskins, are we supposed to wait on you? 0 HR, .111 AVG.
  • Max Fried: The Road Warrior. Five clean outings w/ six K. Ace of the staff.
  • Spencer Howard. It was the Braves. Stand by to see if you get another chance any time soon.
  • Jacob deGrom is getting Wins this year. When does he get tired of winning the Cy Young?
  • Andres Gimenez. Great bat, young man. Keep those wheels moving (three SB). 2% owned? Too low.
  • Jesus Aguilar is 9% owned?! C’mon people. Playing time. 4 HR, .306 AVG. Stop reading this, go check your leagues now and then come back. We’ll be here.
  • (Pause to check leagues)
  • Velo (92.3mph) isn’t near his norm (95.5) of recent years, but James Paxton had success (6.1 IP, 1 ER, 11 K). Now go check the Flex Tape to make sure it’s still holding everything.
  • Charlie Morton left after second inning w/shoulder inflammation. Terrible to see. Hopefully he’s not opening up his steak restaurant soon.
  • “I am the man!!” Ok, settle down Spencer Turnbull (7 IP, 1 ER, 4 K). One, it was the Pirates. Two…it was the Pirates.
  • How little respect does Austin Romine get? 4% owned. .313 AVG from the catcher spot.
  • Caan Biggio (four) & Bo Bichette (two) busy stamping these long-distance letters. HELLOOOO? Has anyone seen a Vlad Guerrero Jr.
  • Please, J.D. Martinez. Tell me what the problem is. You are the batting master. Do yoga. Meditate for a bit. Then crush.
  • Brady Singer bewilders the Twins with his vocal range. (5 IP, 2 ER, 4 K). Let’s try it again in MIN & then back in KC. Ouch!
  • Speed fiend Adalberto Mondesi (4) w/ .250 AVG. Looks like the shoulder is holding up. **Cringe at .273 OBP**
  • Sonny Gray doesn’t enjoy Rocky Road, but he’ll have to deal with it from time to time. 5.1 IP, 4 ER, 7K vs. MIL. PIT next. Sweet.
  • Christian Yelich seeing the ball well. Fourth shot of the top-shelf stuff.
  • Don’t tempt us with a good time, Jesse Winker (first HR).
  • Catcher-eligible Isiah Kiner-Falefa batting second. I’m stuck on the outside looking in.
  • Fore! Yuli Gurriel drove one 399 feet (three).
  • Matt Chapman (four) & Matt Olson (five) had their own little 400 Club.
  • No. Bad Cristian Javier (3 IP, 5 ER, 5K).
  • Carson Kelly pitches?
  • Jose Altuve feeling the pressure from the constant boos of the crowd. .182 AVG
  • Ooh-la-la. 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 11 K from Dinelson Lamet. Rematch!
  • Thought it was a risk to start Justus Sheffield. He rewards 6 IP, 7K vs. COL. Avoid the HOU start.
  • Rockies, stop playing around with Ryan McMahon/Garrett Hampson stuff. Keep Daniel Murphy in the lineup.
  • Corey Seager, come back. You’re getting passed on the 95+ MPH hits list.
  • If you're holding (a roster spot) out hope for a return, you might want to consider dropping Justin Verlander.
  • Endgame
  • It's Monday. That doesn't mean anything good or bad. It is what you make it.
  • Have a great day and I hope your FAAB went well.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
