DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (5/27/21): MLB DFS Lineups

paul goldschmidt fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers MLB injury news

We have a 6-game main slate on tap tonight, and it may turn into a 5-game slate. The weather looks pretty nasty for the BAL/CWS game, so be careful when setting those lineups. It is a fun 6-game slate with a couple of nice hitting slots and a few arms to target. There are no real aces, no Coors, so no automatic plays, leaving some nice pivots on what the chalk could be tonight.

The slate starts with which pitchers to build around. I am pretty locked in to the two pitchers below, but there can be tournament arguments for Shohei Ohtani and Stephen Strasburg. After locking in the pitching, it's time for the bats. The Cardinals should be the chalk with some nice pivot stacks behind them. If the BAL/CWS game plays then, that becomes quite intriguing. Listen in to MLB DFS Quick HIts to get the full slate rundown and strategy.

This article will provide you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings on 5/27/2021. The lineup will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also check out today's FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. DraftKings DFS Starting Pitchers

Chris Bassitt - P, OAK vs LAA ($8,300)

Bassitt is my ace tonight. He deserves it as he has been outstanding this season. Over his last eight starts, he has a 3.26 ERA to go with a 2.61 FIP and 3.32 xFIP. Bassitt was always known for limiting damage, and that is true as he has only allowed three home runs over the last eight games, but the increase in strikeouts has been the major storyline. Over the last eight games, he has struck out 58 batters in 49.2 innings, good for a 28.6% strikeout rate. Bassitt is only walking 5.9% simultaneously, good for a solid 22.7% K-BB%. He faced the Angels in his last start, throwing 7.2 innings while allowing two runs and striking out eight. This is an Angels team without Mike Trout and is striking out close to 28% of the time versus RHP in May. Bassitt has been outstanding this season, and that should continue tonight.

Alex Wood - P, SF at LAD ($6,900)

Now it's time to have some fun and fade the Dodgers. Yep, fading one of the best teams in baseball. We are fading with one of the best pitchers so far this season. Wood comes into tonight's game with a 1.93 ERA, 2.92 FIP, and 2.85 xFIP. Wood is striking out 25.5% of the batters he faces while walking 6.7%, good for an 18.8% K-BB%. Wood has struck out six or more in five of his last six starts and has not allowed more than two runs in any game this season. He faces a Dodgers team that he faced in his last start, where he went six innings, allowing two runs, and struck out seven. It is also a Dodgers team that has struggled versus LHP in May as they are striking out 25.6% of the time with a .222 average and a 93 wRC+. Wood was $10,000 in his last start versus the Dodgers so give me the $3100 savings.

DraftKings DFS Infielders

Buster Posey - C, SF at Edwin Uceta ($4,300)

Posey is having quite the resurrection season for the Giants. Posey took 2020 off and looked like a brand new man. In May alone, he is hitting .333 while walking 14.3% of the time, which is good for a .413 OBP. He has been hitting second or third for the Giants, which actually makes sense so he can set the table for the bigger boppers in the lineup. Posey has also had a great quality of contact in May with an 8.9% barrel rate and a 44.4% hard-hit rate. Posey and the Giants will face a bullpen game from the Dodgers, and that could mean some favorable matchups for the Giants' veteran. Posey usually does not play three games in a row often, so that tonight could be a day off. If he is out of the lineup, then Curt Casali at $2,500 is a decent value. Lastly, Posey could play 1B tonight with Brandon Belt on the IL and Darin Ruf going down with a hamstring injury last night.

Paul Goldschmidt - 1B, STL at Seth Frankoff ($4,100)

Goldy is back in Arizona tonight and gets a great matchup versus Frankoff or potentially Matt Peacock. Regardless it is a bullpen game for the DBacks, and that bodes well for any Cardinals player worth targeting tonight. Goldy is having a strong 2021 season, and that includes a solid month of May. Goldy has hit safely in 18 of 22 games in May, good for a .306 average. He has nine extra-base hits, including three home runs, good for a .176 ISO and 140 wRC+. We should expect even more strong offensive production when looking at his quality of contact in May, as Goldy is barreling the ball 16.4% of the time with a 56.7% hard-hit rate. Goldy will be going deep back in the desert tonight as the Cardinals should roll.

Nick Madrigal - 2B, CWS vs. Bruce Zimmermann ($3,300)

Madrigal is having himself a season and has a heck of a matchup tonight versus Zimmermann. Over the last eight games, Madrigal is hitting .433 with four extra-base hits and a .233 ISO. Mr. Contact himself leads all of baseball in contact rate this season, and that has led to a low 5.3% strikeout rate over the last eight games. Madrigal is always putting balls in play and is starting to show some power, which is unexpected. The kicker with Madrigal is where does he hit in the lineup? He occasionally hits near the top of the order and then becomes a lock-in DFS lineup, but most of the time, he hits ninth, and that makes things a bit interesting. Tonight it may not matter where he hits in the lineup as he faces the lefty Zimmermann, and on the season, Madrigal is hitting .386 with a .205 ISO versus LHP this season. Just make sure this game plays as Madrigal, and many other bats will come into play.

Edmundo Sosa - SS, STL at Seth Frankoff ($3,200)

The 25-year-old Sosa has jumped into regular playing time with the Paul DeJong injury, and Sosa has flourished. He brings a 6-game hitting streak into action tonight, where he has three extra-base hits and even stole a base. Sosa is only striking out 13% of the time over that stretch which is pretty solid for a young bat, and the quality of contact isn't bad either. The most impressive part is a maxEV over 114 mph. Sosa is still extremely cheap tonight and could be a nice value piece in a Cardinals stack tonight versus the DBacks.

Nolan Arenado - 3B, STL at Seth Frankoff  ($5,700)

No Coors Field, no problem for Arenado this season. He has been solid all season, but the month of May has been quite impressive. Arenado is hitting .326 with 15 extra-base hits, including six home runs. He has a .315 ISO, .640 SLG, and 171 wRC+. Arenado is straight-raking and is only striking out 9.3% of the time, leading to many balls in play. This is obviously good, especially with an 8.6% barrel rate and 40.7% hard-hit rate. Arenado is raking right now and should be with Goldy in all of your Cardinals stacks tonight.

DraftKings DFS Outfielders

Adolis Garcia - OF, TEX at Chris Flexen ($3,600)

Here we are again. Garcia is still WAY TOO CHEAP on DK. Garcia is having an amazing season. Overall, a top 10 fantasy hitter season, yet DK continues to misprice him. Garcia brings a 6-game hitting streak into tonight's game, where he has hit five home runs. Garcia is taking full advantage of his contact as he is striking out 32.1% of the time with a .286 average and a .214 BABIP. The ball is not in play a ton, but when it is, Garcia is mashing it. Over the current hitting streak, Garcia is barreling the ball 31.6% of the time with a 47.4% hard-hit rate. Keep rolling with Adolis as he is too cheap, especially in a great matchup versus Flexen tonight.

Mitch Haniger - OF, SEA vs. Kolby Allard ($5,300)

The Mariners/Rangers game involves two horrific offenses but also two equally bad pitching situations. Insert Haniger and the Mariners stack. Over the last couple of weeks, Haniger has been swinging a hot stick. He is hitting .295 with nine extra-base hits over his last 12 games, good for a .341 ISO. Those extra-base hits add up to a whole lot of DK points. Haniger isn't just hitting everything. He is also walking 12% of the time, which is huge as it is another avenue of reaching base and racking up DK points. Haniger's contact quality has been outstanding over the last couple of weeks, with a 17.1% barrel rate and 42.9% hard-hit rate. The bottom line, Haniger is raking and should be a part of a potential game stack in Seattle tonight.

Alex Dickerson - OF, SF vs. Edwin Uceta ($3,000)

Dickerson has gotten off to a slow, injury-riddled start to 2021. He now seems healthy and is slowly putting together some strong games. Since he returned to the Giants lineup on May 16, he is hitting .265 with four extra-base hits and a .205 ISO. Dickerson is barreling the ball 7.4% of the time with a solid 48.1% barrel rate. Dickerson has even returned to the three-hole in the Giants lineup the last couple of games, and that raises his fantasy value. The Giants are a sneaky stack tonight in a bullpen game versus the Dodgers, and Dickerson makes for a really nice piece of that stack.

DraftKings DFS Stacks

  • St Louis Cardinals (Seth Frankoff, RHP)
  • Seattle Mariners (Kolby Allard, LHP)
  • San Francisco Giants (Edwin Uceta, RHP)
  • Sneaky Stack-  Oakland Athletics (Shohei Ohtani, RHP)
