Hitter Streamers for 7/1 - Shallow Leagues
C.J. Cron (1B, COL) - 44% rostered
Matchup: vs. RHP Adam Wainwright
Cron is a 1B streaming call that makes plenty of sense if you're searching for HRs. While he may be riding a slight cold streak(1-for-18), it's impossible to overlook a home game in Coors Field. The ballpark is highly regarded as the place where BABIPs soar and scoring is seemingly never-ending. Let's put the ballpark's good fortune along with Cron's near 11% barrel rate and hope today is a "get-right" game.
Dylan Moore (2B/3B/SS/OF, SEA) - 43% rostered
Matchup: @ LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu
Rostering Moore comes with certain flaws, mainly a sinkhole in batting average. However, if you can stomach the possibility of an 0-3 night, there may be a happy little reward-stolen bases! The Seattle infielder is grabbing bags at an alarming rate, and after his three SB spree from last week, his season-long total sits at 13 SBs. Furthermore, the batting average woes may be turning a corner because Moore is batting nearly .270 over the last 30 days.
Paul DeJong (SS, STL) - 26% rostered
Matchup: @ RHP Antonio Senzatela
Speaking of a sinkhole at batting average? Paul DeJong is batting a paltry .169 on the season, but there is still thump in his bat. With 10 HRs on the season, grabbing DeJong is a boom-or-bust move with HR upside. The reason for DeJong's subpar BA is the lack of contact. However, today is in Coors Field, and any contact could lead to a dinger.
Hunter Renfroe (OF, BOS) - 43% rostered
Matchup: vs. LHP Kris Bubic
Renfroe has spent a majority of his career with the "lefty-masher" label attached. In 2021, this is not any different. In 75 ABs, Renfroe has wasted no time living up to his label by slashling .333/.438/.600 with a 1.038 OPS. Additionally, what really makes him a must roster is the lack of strikeouts against southpaws. If you're grabbing one streamer today, this would be the one to get; especially for HRs.
Hitter Streamers for 7/1 - Deeper Leagues
Kike Hernandez (2B/SS/3B, BOS) - 18% rostered
Matchup: vs. LHP Kris Bubic
Boston wanted a little boost in the offense, so they started tossing Hernandez in the leadoff spot. Since that move, Hernandez has collected three multi-hit games. Furthermore, in that timeframe, Hernandez is 6-for-15 with three runs, four RBI, and even a dinger. Even better for today, his matchup against Bubic, because he is slugging 20 points higher against LHP.
Josh Harrison (2B/3B/OF, WAS) - 19% rostered
Matchup: @ RHP Tony Gonsolin
Harrison likely won't provide much power, as he only has four HRs and a .381 SLG%. However, he is a very capable hitter with favorable splits when facing a right-handed pitcher. In 201 PAs vs. RHP, Harrison has piled up 51 hits with 14 walks. Furthermore, his batting order slot is likely near the top, which could lead to extra counting stats. To sum things up, anyone in an OBP league should highly consider making this move.
Luis Arraez (2B/3B/OF, MIN) - 19% rostered
Matchup: @ LHP Carlos Rodon
Anytime a southpaw is on the mound, the Twins use Arraez in the leadoff spot. And, while Arraez draws a tougher matchup against Rodon. We can't overlook the fact that that the Minnesota offense carries a 117 wRC+ against LHP over the last 30 days. Part of that is Arraez's ability to get on base and come around the basepaths and scoring runs. This is a streamer that can help if you're going to be light on runs and batting average.
Pitcher Streamers for 7/1 - Shallow Leagues
Johnny Cueto (SP, SF) - 37% rostered
Matchup: at ARI Merrill Kelly
While Cueto is getting up there in years, that doesn't mean he is no longer an effective pitcher. In fact, Cueto touts a 6-3 record with a 3.63 with a 1.27 WHIP. The success is driven by his pinpoint control and overall command of his pitches. Additionally, his walk rate is at a career-low mark of 4.3%, which is in the top 5% of all starting pitchers. Now, the strange part, his fastball is sitting over 92-mph for the first time in five years. However, his K% rate is down to a mere 18.9%.
Cueto gets an enticing matchup against the D-backs, who are without Ketel Marte. Furthermore, in the last 30 days vs. RHP, Arizona has looked over-matched at the plate, as seen by their 64 wRC+ and .265 wOBA. What's even worse for Arizona? They aren't really striking out too much(25.6% K-rate). Moreso, the lackluster offense is due to a .090 ISO and .590 OPS(both last in the MLB).
So, what should we expect? Due to the D-backs inefficiency and Cueto's uncanny ability to go deeper into games, I would expect him a stat line like 5-6 IP with nearly a strikeout per inning and only a couple of earned runs. This is a perfect spot for Cueto to pick up a win or get a vaunted quality start.
