Hitter Streamers for 7/15
Kike Hernandez (2B/SS/OF, BOS) - 38% rostered
Matchup: @ LHP Jordan Montgomery
Grabbing the leadoff hitter for one of the most potent offenses in the MLB is always a terrific idea. Furthermore, when it's the only game on the day! Additionally, Hernandez's nice bonuses are the 11 HRs, which is backed up by a near 8% barrel rate. He plays much better in an OBP league because of his 8.5% walk rate.
Bobby Dalbec (1B, BOS) - 14% rostered
Matchup: @ LHP Jordan Montgomery
Dalbec has an outstanding source of streaming power today. His 16.9% barrel rate helps indicate an elevated chance of a longball. Even better, Dalbec destroys southpaws! Against LHP, he slashes .267/.287/.511 with a .798 OPS. What leaps out there? He refuses to walk and likes to hunt for his pitch to make quality contact. In fact, ten of his 24 hits vs. LHP are extra-base hits.
Christian Arroyo (2B/3B, BOS) - 3% rostered
Matchup: @ LHP Jordan Montgomery
Arroyo is another batter with terrific handedness splits that should make him a great streaming option. In 64 AB vs. LHP, Arroyo is slashing .328/.358/.858 with a .858 OPS. That is pretty wild for a player that is only 3% rostered at the moment. Today could be a great day to add to those totals because Arroyo has a .313 batting average against offspeed pitches, which are Montgomery's best pitch.
Tim Locastro (OF, NYY) - 1% rostered
Matchup: vs. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez
Searching for an SB in a short week? Locastro has an elite-level sprint speed(30.7 ft/sec) that he utilizes to swipe bags. While he only has five on the season, it's due to a lack of opportunities with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Yankees didn't bring him in to walk and hit HRs.
Pitcher Streamers for 7/15
Jordan Montgomery (SP, NYY) - 39% rostered
Matchup: vs. BOS Eduardo Rodriguez
With the streaming options down to two, Monty makes it an easy decision today. He has been a serviceable streamer for the majority of 2021, and while an outing against Boston might garner a pass, today, he is our top choice. There are a couple of things that could help boost Montgomery. One could be an All-Star Game hangover. Much like anyone returning from a vacation, you need that day or two to get back to normal. Sure, that is less of statistical analysis but worth mentioning.
For my statistical friends, let's dive right down to the nuts and bolts. Monty's 17.3% K-BB rate helps us confidently want to roster him as our SP. He doesn't harness a 98-mph fastball but rather a 92-mph heater. So, how does he find success? His changeup(3.1) and curveball(5.4) both have outstanding pVals and help make up for the lackluster fastball. If we see a successful outing for Montgomery, he needs to steal an early strike with the fastball and use those two pitches to put away batters. Boston had been scorching hot(120 wRC+ vs. LHP in the last 30 days) but a 104 wRC+ vs. LHP on the season. Let's hope that slow start is in effect for Boston.
Chad Green (SP/RP, NYY) - 45% rostered
Matchup: vs. BOS Eduardo Rodriguez
It was a bit of a shocker to see Green rostered at a 45% clip. However, the struggles of Aroldis Chapman have been very prevalent. For fantasy managers chasing Holds or Saves, this might be the top RP to pickup. Through 46.2 innings pitched, Green sports a 2.89 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 50 Ks. So, even if you do roster Green and he doesn't pick up a save or hold, there is help in any ratios and Ks to make him valuable.
Adam Ottavino (RP, NYY) - 28% rostered
Matchup:@ LHP Jordan Montgomery
Much like Green, Ottavino remains an outstanding source of Ks. His 43 Ks through 37 innings pitched, added to 15 Holds and seven Saves, makes him viable for just about any league. What's always haunted Ottavino is the walks, but over the last month, Ottavino has had a 3:12 K/BB ratio. If Boston gets a lead, no doubt, Ottavino will be the setup to Matt Barnes and help solidify a win with a Hold.
