Mark's 2022 MLB Betting Picks
With these articles, I am 22-30-3 overall on the season, down 2.9 units. I have been starting small and conservative because it's a long season. But it's now June and now I am opening things up a bit and trying to make more than just a couple of bets a day. On Monday the picks went 3-0-1 so here's hoping to continue to ride the wave.
Today's MLB Betting Picks - Pirates @ Cardinals
O/U: 8.5 | Moneyline: STL -165
PIT: Roansy Contreras | STL: Jack Flaherty
Pittsburgh faces Saint Louis in Jack Flaherty's season debut. On the mound for Pittsburgh is Roansy Contreras. Contreras is having a good season with a 3.21 SIERA, 28.2% strikeout rate, and 7.7% walk rate. Saint Louis is a tough team to get out; they have the third-lowest strikeout rate, have scored the fifth-most runs, and have the ninth-highest OBP. What has been found, however, is that good pitching can put in check good hitting. Contreras is putting up better than average numbers.
For Saint Louis Jack Flaherty is on the mound. First starts off of injury have not gone well in recent memory. Ask Stephen Strasburg and Lance Lynn. The good thing Flaherty has going for himself is that Pittsburgh's offense is bad. Like Triple-A bad.
Despite that, I like Contreras to have the edge in this matchup against Flaherty. I can't trust Pittsburgh's bullpen with a 4.23 ERA but I could see a low-scoring game while the starting pitchers are in. Saint Louis has a better lineup and better bullpen. Contreras could be better than Flaherty and I am willing to take a shot on the first five innings at these odds.
Pick: Pittsburgh Moneyline F5 (+175), BetRivers Sportsbook 0.5 units; UNDER 9 Runs (-120), BetMGM Sportsbook, 0.5 units

Today's MLB Betting Picks - Rays @ Yankees
O/U: 7 | Moneyline: NYY -140
TBR: Shane McClanahan | NYY: Nestor Cortes
If you enjoy pitching duels, you are in for a potential treat with this game. Shane McClanahan takes the mound for Tampa Bay. He has a 2.21 SIERA, 35.5% strikeout rate, and just a 4.7% walk rate. He is a front runner for the Cy Young in the American League and I am excited to see how he does against this potent Yankees lineup.
New York has Nestor Cortes going. He has a 3.10 SIERA, 28.6% strikeout rate, and a 5.6% walk rate. Fortunately for him, he doesn't have to pitch against the Yankees but rather against a more average Tampa Bay squad.
Tampa Bay is 26th in OBP, 17th in ISO, and 20th in runs scored. New York is third in OBP, first in ISO, and third in runs scored. New York definitely has the edge with the bats in this one, being one of the best offensive teams in the league.
As far as bullpens go, New York's is second best with a 2.83 bullpen ERA. Tampa Bay isn't bad either with a 3.03 bullpen ERA.
This is a tough game to handicap. The Yankees are actually at plus odds to have the lead after five innings. Because of this, taking a stab at the Yankees to have the lead after five innings at +105. I also don't mind a sprinkle on the draw at +390 too.
Pick: Yankees Moneyline F5 (+114), BetRivers Sportsbook, 0.5 units; Draw F5 (+370), BetRivers Sportsbook, 0.25 units.
Good luck, RotoBallers! Stay tuned for more great DFS and betting content throughout the week!
