Gerardo Parra and the Curious Case of 2016 Playing Time

Gerardo Parra had two seasons in 2015. The first one, in Milwaukee, saw him hit .328 with nine homers and nine steals. This was capped off by an insane July where he hit .435, which caught the eye of the Baltimore Orioles. The Brewers were sellers, so off Parra went to Baltimore at the deadline.

It was known that his numbers were over his head, but Baltimore was simply renting him. Unfortunately for them, he came down to earth and only hit .237 in the final two months of the season. Parra was picked up by Colorado on a three year contract, and as of now he is the fourth outfielder. This could mean he’s an expensive rotating piece, that someone will be traded in front of him, or that Corey Dickerson could transition to first base to try to mitigate his foot woes. Baltimore is a hitter’s park, but there’s no place like Coors.

There are so many variables for Parra based on playing time and where he’d bat, but he could offer 15/15 upside if he gets a full time gig there. His ADP is 269 right now on NFBC, which certainly seems worth it.
