Being a New York Giants fan is not for the faint of heart, but Sunday night paid off for the Giants' faithful with a late rally that was capped off by an incredible throw from Eli Manning into the back of the end zone that tight end Larry Donnell brought down over his head for a touchdown to put the Giants up 30-27 with 21 seconds left.
In today's NFL, it has become abundantly clear that receivers need to hold onto the ball until after their post-game interviews are done for the catch to stand. Donnell came down with defenders swatting at the ball, but he kept the ball against his helmet and there was no proof that it was bobbled in any way. This display of hand strength and body control from Donnell was incredible, and the placement from Eli in a spot where only Donnell could go up and get it was beautiful.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle both hurt their hamstrings late in the game, and with Victor Cruz already out the Giants were stuck with barely any warm bodies left for their final drive. Shane Vereen got a lot of action as the best receiving option left for the Giants on the last drive. Odell Beckham eventually did return to draw a pass interference call late in the drive to set the Giants up on the 12 yard line for the final scoring play. Randle did not return to the game. The Giants travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Monday night next week, and it seems they could use the extra day of rest.
