Jay Ajayi (RB, FA) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 10% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: The Detroit Lions have been working out free agent running back Jay Ajayi this week, and if he indeed ends up signing with the team, he could become a potential asset as an RB2 or at least a flex during the final months of the year.

The Lions backfield is a mess right now. Kerryon Johnson (knee) and Tra Carson (hamstring) are both on injured reserve for the rest of the season, leaving the team with the uninspiring trio of Ty Johnson, J.D. McKissic and Paul Perkins. Ty Johnson led the team in carries in Week 9 against the Raiders, carrying the ball nine times for just 29 yards. McKissic was the team's most effective back in Week 9, totaling 72 yards on seven touches, but the team seems resilient to give him a bigger workload.

Ajayi is worthy of an add in leagues of 14 teams or deeper just for speculation. The upside isn't extremely high as the Lions have struggled running the ball since essentially the Barry Sanders days, but the potential is there for a deep league RB2 starter if Ajayi can get 12 to 15 touches per game, which is very much on the table.
