BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 15% of leagues
ANALYSIS: It would appear that Washington Nationals starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson is doing that thing again where he does not walk a lot of people and induces awful contact. He had begun to stand out even before taking a perfect game into the seventh inning against the Padres on Tuesday night, but is now a viable fantasy option.
While his 3.00 ERA may still rise toward 3.60, but buying into that alongside a WHIP that could sit under 1.20 is worth it. Now his 2.28 ERA is a clear small-sample-size overperformance, but his peripherals remain in the low-to-mid threes thanks in large part to issuing just four free passes in 27 2/3 innings. With big strikeouts and loud contact ruling the day, Hellickson's modest ratio contributions should make for a nice end-of-rotation piece.
Hellickson will pitch in Arizona against the league-leading Diamondbacks on Sunday, but he could be a strong streamer for those looking to see a last-ditch drop in WHIP.
