Lorenzo Cain took some monstrous steps forward in 2015, becoming a strong five category contributor for Kansas City on their way to glory. His batted ball profile improved in almost every way, and while it might end up being a “career year” for Cain, there is little evidence that points to regression coming for all of the gains he showed.
He had the lowest soft contact rate of his career (13.3%). His BABIP came down from .380 last year to .347, but still hit .307 on the year. He stole 28 bases for the second year in a row, and popped off for 101 runs scored, 16 bombs, and 72 RBIs while hitting third in this strong lineup. He was always a strong prospect in the Milwaukee system, and while he was lauded for his centerfield play, his bat was still seen as good for average and his speed was respected.
He’ll be 30 this year, and he has yet to play in over 135 games in a season, but he is a very strong five category contributor and demands his current draft slot, being the 17th OF off of the board.
