Malcolm Brown (RB, LAR) - Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues

ROSTERED: 24% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: More than likely, there was just one running back from the Los Angeles Rams that was drafted in your fantasy football leagues, Cam Akers. In Week 1 against the Cowboys, we saw the Rams utilize Malcolm Brown the most, however. He is the veteran on this roster, as he's entering his sixth season in the NFL in 2020. If you're into dynasty leagues, Brown is probably someone that you've been sitting on as a bench option, but he appeared to be much more than that in Week 1.

Brown finished the first game of the season with 18 carries for 79 yards (4.4 YPC) and two rushing touchdowns. He also added three catches on four targets for 31 yards through the air. Akers was next in the pecking order as he saw 14 carries and totaled just 39 yards (2.8 YPC), he also caught his lone target for just four yards. Second-year running back Darrell Henderson wasn't involved much at all as he saw just three carries and totaled six yards.

As of now, it looks like this backfield will be run by Brown and Akers. Fantasy GMs should prefer Akers long-term as he'll eventually take over as the lead back. Brown has been in the league for a while now and hasn't been relevant for fantasy purposes, but with Todd Gurley out of LA, we could see a new split backfield of Brown and Akers. Needless to say, Brown is a must-add in all formats, after seeing the usage and production that he just put up. If there's a chance he ends up being the lead back seeing the bulk of the work, he could be a huge value this year. However, as stated previously, I believe Akers is better and will get involved down the stretch as he gets acclimated to the NFL. Regardless of how you feel about these two, Brown is a must-add and should be a high priority on the waiver wire this week.
