MLB Streamers for Thursday, July 23rd

Welcome to the 2020 MLB Season! While the delay has now been well over four months, it is finally time to start the season and we here at RotoBaller could not be more excited! The season will be a sprint to the finish as the teams will be playing 60 games across 66 days and we will be here every day to ensure you get the best fantasy baseball advice on the market.

RotoBaller's has been dishing out streamer advice for years. We're always streamin and dreamin. Each day we'll publish some of the best streaming options to consider in your fantasy baseball daily league lineups. Streaming pitchers and position players to exploit a matchup are extremely important in fantasy baseball, especially in a truncated season like this one.

We will breakdown the streaming options into tiers: shallow leagues (rostered level between 35% and 50%), deep leagues (rostered level between 20% and 35%), and the deepest leagues (rostered level under 20%). Just because a player is recommended in one tier, does not mean he cannot be used in another tier. For instance, if a player is 50% rostered, but is available in your deeper league, feel free to stream him there! Finally, make sure to monitor MLB Starting Lineups to see who's sitting and starting, to ensure these players are actually in their lineups!

Shallow League Streamers (50% Rostered)

Pitchers to Stream:

Thursday's slate only offers us two games, which includes the Yankees @ Nationals and Giants @ Dodgers. With the likes of Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, and Clayton Kershaw on the mound, there really are no streaming options except for a 27% owned Johnny Cueto, who likely should not be streamed in any tier. It is his first start since September 27th of last year, which also came against the Dodgers, and he managed to give up five earned runs in just two innings. He's an avoid for me.

Hitters to Stream:

Starlin Castro (2B, WAS) - 45% Rostered

Castro is typically a solid stream vs. lefthanded pitching, but in this instance, he has solid numbers against the right-handed Cole. For his career, he is 6/17 having hit .353/.368/.353 with four RBI, one BB, and only four Ks. While you normally do not want to stream against Cole, pairing Castro's solid line along with the fact that most of the arms on the slate are studs, makes him a decent option.

Howie Kendrick (1B/2B/SS/OF, WAS) - 37% Rostered

I hate to go against Gerrit Cole again, but there are just so few options on this slate, and Kendrick is an absolute professional hitter. Since 2017, he has slashed .320/.367/..506 vs. righties and .335/.386/.538 vs lefties. His numbers vs. Cole aren't great as he is just 2/9 against him, but he does have a double and three RBI against the Yankee ace. The fact that he hits so well vs. both handed pitchers means when the Yankees go to the pen, he can still provide value. He is a player that must be watched ahead of time though to ensure he makes the starting lineup.

Deep Leagues Streamers (25% Rostered)

Mike Yastrzemski (OF, SF) - 33% Rostered

his is an odd selection as well because it is a lefty vs. lefty recommendation, but that is not such a bad thing for Yaz. In 2019, Yaz slashed .329/.382/.561 vs. lefties and put the ball in play vs. them much better than he did vs. righties. He also put up much better splits on the road and had his third-highest OPS (1.257) at Dodger Stadium.

Deepest Leagues Streamers (10% Rostered)

Chris Taylor (2B/OF, LAD) - 8% Rostered

Chris Taylor is likely to open as the Dodgers starting second baseman and could provide some value in Thursday's opener vs. the Giants. He has performed well vs. righties over the previous three seasons as noted by his .273/.340./.465 slash line, and he has also managed 32 HR and 23 SB over that span as well amidst limited playing time. He also hit eight of his 12 HR at home in 2019, which is the main reason for his .874 OPS. If Cueto is not on his game, Taylor could have a nice day at the plate and possibly even snag a base.
