ANALYSIS: If you're a hungry little saves vulture like me, you've been stashing Nick Anderson for a week already, in anticipation of a Sergio Romo trade. Anderson should be the closer in Miami now, though we'll have to wait for him to be used in the 9th, or for managerial confirmation, to know for sure. While his ERA (4.04) and WHIP (1.25) aren't typically what you associate with a top tier closer, he has the stuff to be a top-15 relief pitcher and closer down the stretch.
Anderson has an elite 36.9% K-rate, and an incredible 29.1% K%-BB%, which are supported by a 17.1% SwStr rate and 64.8% F-Strike rate. His SIERA is a top-notch 2.72. If there's anything to not like about Anderson, it's his usage, as he's racked up only 42.1 IP so far, which puts him on pace for about 62 IP at season's end, not the best for a reliever, but he'll still end up with close to 90 Ks as well. Still, despite being underutilized, Anderson is still 20th in WAR amongst all relievers in 2019, and seven of the relievers above him don't see save opportunities. Add it all up, and you have in Anderson one of baseball's most capable relief pitchers who is now going to see save opportunities for the final two months. Run to your waiver wire and add him immediately, if not sooner!
