49ers Defense Humbled On Halloween
5 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers Defense surrendered 25 points in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals but escaped with a narrow 28-25 victory. The second-ranked defense by DVOA allowed new Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake to amass 162 scrimmage yards and atypically permitted several big plays, including an 88-yard catch-and-run by rookie wideout Andy Isabella in the fourth quarter. The pass rush harassed quarterback Kyler Murray for three crippling sacks but the defense did little else. After a dominant four-game run, the relatively weaker rush defense was exposed for 153 ground yards and possibly losing linebacker Kwon Alexander (chest) long term. The Niners have earned weekly set-and-forget fantasy status but will draw another tricky matchup in Week 10 against All-Pro quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.
